Announcing auditions for two adult casts of Salt Lake Children's Theatre's 2026 touring production of The Emperor's New Everything, a new play by Mindy Curtis.
AUDITION & APPLICATION INFO
Actors email a short 1-3 minute video of yourself telling (not reading) an engaging children’s story. Include a resume and a basic schedule of availability.

CHARACTER LIST
Actor 1: Fraudrick the Servant / Sir (or Madame) Swindleton - Any gender, any adult age. A servant who swindles the Emperor insisting he is a royal who has the power to predict all the style trends in all the realms in Oblivionia.
Actor 2: The Emperor - M, 20s-30s. Has recently become the ruler of all of Oblivionia after his father’s death. Well meaning but gullible. Willing to do anything to be liked and accepted.
Actor 3: Plays Various Characters - Any gender, any adult age.
Lord (or Lady) Logis - The Emperor’s first advisor. Logical, reasonable, and skeptical. AND Lords (or Ladies) of the Realms - Lord Crumbwell of Feastwood, Lord Glitzengarb of Chichaven, and Lord Fenrick the Footloose of Swampstep Hollow. They each rule their realm within the Empire of Oblivionia.
SUMMARY
The Emperor’s New Everything is a satirical, interactive children’s play set in the whimsical Empire of Oblivionia. A gullible young Emperor, desperate to be loved like his late father, is tricked by Fraudrick the Servant—who disguises himself as “Sir Swindleton” and claims to predict future trends. With the audience’s participation, Fraudrick leads the Emperor on a comical tour of the realms, inventing absurd fashions and foods, while Lord Logis works to expose the deception and remind everyone that true leadership comes from wisdom, fairness, and care.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
Two casts, including stage managers, will be hired to perform the show throughout the tour April thru October, 2026. All positions are paid for a rehearsal period and per show. Rehearsals scheduled mid-February through early April based on show bookings and cast availability.
